Home Opener Could have Gone Better for Lions

Home Opener Could have Gone Better for Lions

by Dylan Motta

The Lions first home stand did not go quite the way they expected, dropping both games of the double header to the Raptors. The first game the Lions struggled to throw strikes giving up thirteen walks in the 10-5 loss. The second game was a heartbreaking defeat losing in extra innings 4-3.

The first game was a rough one for the Lions giving up eight runs in four innings. Trey Taliferro was the bright spot for the Lions going 1 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI, a walk, 2 runs and 3 stolen bases. Nick White was 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI, a walk, a run and one of his hits was a double.

In the second game of the double header, the Lions scored first from a Doyle McNew double to bring Jake Brack home in the bottom of the 1st. The Raptors answered with a solo homerun in the top of the 2nd and scored another in the 3rd to give them a 2-1 lead. The Lions tied and then retook the lead in the bottom of the 3rd putting them up 3-2. Nate Griffin struck out the side in the fourth. Griffin had three innings when he retired the side in order. Montgomery tied it up in the 5th before winning in extras.
