Cardinals Win First Postseason Game Since 2017

CCBC Catonsville's men's basketball team picked up their first postseason victory since 2017 on Tuesday, defeating Montgomery College 96-86.

The win marked the first playoff win for the Cardinals since winning an MD JUCO tournament game seven years ago. Five Cardinal players scored in double-digits as the Cardinals controlled the pace of the game.

After the Raptors took an early lead, the Cardinals surged back into the contest. The Raptors kept the contest close until halfway through the second half when the Cardinals opened up a 23-point lead. While Montgomery did manage to lower the deficit to ten points, they did so with just seconds left. By that point, the Cardinals had already all but clinched victory.

The Cardinals starters were key in the win, as four scored in double-digits. Sophomore forward Albright Obode (Plainfield) scored a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Murray Grant (Obra D. Tomkins), in his final game at home, scored 19 points and four assists. Freshman guard Lance Porter (Randallstown) wrapped up an impressive three-game stretch with 13 points and seven rebounds, while freshman guard Micah Morgan (West Nottingham) added ten points, four assists, and two steals. Coming off the bench, sophomore guard Jo-Nathan Kelly (Strawberry Mansion) scored a game-high 28 points.

The Cardinals now move to the semifinals of the Region 20 tournament, where they will face rival CCBC Dundalk.
