Hawks fall short of Knights and top Raptors

Hagerstown Community College Women's Soccer (8-3-0) traveled to CCBC Essex on Tuesday and Montgomery College of Rockville on Thursday for two Maryland Juco and Region 20 match-ups this week.

On Tuesday, Essex set a quick pace from the start, pressuring the Hawks defense into the thirty-ninth minute, when Elena Heins (4) scored on a corner kick assisted by Ashlin Fuentes (2) to put the Knights up 1-0. The Hawks had one shot on goal to nine attempts by the Knights at the half. Hagerstown cranked up the pressure on Essex in the second half, making twelve shots on goal, with many opportunities to score, but came up short, losing 0-1 to the Knights.

Thursday's match was all Hawks from the start, with Hagerstown focused on the speed of the Raptor's attacks. In the twenty-ninth minute, Serenity Anderson (21) scored on an assist by Alexis Linetty (2), as Hawks counterattacks opened up opportunities. At the thirty-seventh minute the Raptors evened the score on an unassisted goal by Berenice Bahoul-Machado (6), leaving the score tied at the half. By adjusting the attack on Montgomery's goal in the second half, Hagerstown created the winning goal by Kayda Shives (4) at the seventy minute mark off an assist by Kadenn Martin (34).

"On Tuesday we fell short of winning the game against Essex, but the team took their play to a new level, creating exciting moments and really coming together," commented Coach Cliften Williams. "Yesterday, we pushed the level even higher," Williams stated, "the Raptors are a good team, this is the program's first win over Montgomery College, and the result is a great reward for the season's hard work."

Hagerstown travels to Christendom College in Front Royal, VA tomorrow for a match starting at noon.
